    2017 RAM Front Drive Shaft?

I sometimes get some vibration and haven’t been able to grease anything.

For some reason, it will not take the grease.

I asked the dealer to try and get the same results.

They said it must be “crystallized”.

Where and what is the best brand for replacement? I’ve seen $300, $500, and $1000.

Why not just have a driveline shop replace the joints?

It is much more cost-effective than buying a whole new shaft.

Never ending project. Always adding something...

Are you talking about the section that connects to the transfer case to grease?

It’s the only place on the entire truck to grease and has a needlepoint grease port.

I used brake clean spray and a paper clip to clean mine to take grease.

The sticker under the hood said grease every 10k miles.

I've greased it at every oil change 10k except the last two because I can't get it to take.

I'll try the paper clip and brake clean, but it's likely too late since there is play.

Wonder if they come with the same needle valve, non-greased, or normal grease zert?

Good question. I don’t know if they do or not.

I find it odd that Ram only has that one place to grease on the entire truck.

Plus, it’s not the easiest place to get to, LOL.

Heck, on my 2009, I didn't even know you could grease that joint until around 180K miles, LOL!

At 360k now and still going, it gets greased once a year.

It only spins in 4WD, so if your vibration is in 2WD, it's probably something else.

I could be mistaken, but I assume that's what the front axle disconnect is for.

It does spin when not engaged in 4 wheel, I know; I had to replace mine on the 4x4 Ecodiesel at 55k; it's a sealed boot with no greasable access.

I still have the ruined half shaft and was trying to figure out a way to drill and tap a zirc for the new one, but by design, there is none..they designed a throwaway part.

If the boot gets a rip or tear, the grease evaporates (Actually without a rip or tear over time), and the bearing will eat itself to death.

Mine did slowly with some clicking, then got louder to the point I thought it would seize.

I pulled it until the dealer ordered one under warranty, ETA 2017 Eco Diesel RAM 4x4 crew Laramie.

They stopped spinning in 2wd after 2012, I believe.

It has less wear and slightly better MPG without that passive moving part when it's not engaged.

    For the 2500s, at least.

EcoDiesel could be different since the light-duty trucks have that 4wd 'Auto' position.
