Last week I got home from work, hopped out, walked past the front of my truck, and there was like a pop/ting noise every 30-45 seconds.
It sounds like when you put a baking sheet in the oven, and the metal pops if this helps any.
I have never heard this noise from the passenger side around the manifold area.
Could it be a broken manifold stud/crack?
Or is this normal, and I’m going crazy?
If you had a broken or cracked manifold, you would hear a leak or soot covering certain areas.
I can't think of anything that would make a pop sound.
Tinging or pinging could be from injectors.
Does it run normal?

Everything seems to be expected only thing I did to the truck was an oil change the day before I noticed it.
I spilled a little oil down the front of the head, but I couldn’t see that being the cause of the noise.
I will try to get a video tomorrow of it doing it.
A video will certainly help out to try and problem-solve.

Does it make this sound whenever you shut off the motor after running or just once?
If you are running stock emissions and it was just the one time or now and then, it may have just finished up a Regeneration cycle, which could cause the pop/ticking sound.
During Regeneration, the exhaust temperatures get very hot, and as the exhaust manifold and heat shields dissipate the heat, they could cause the sounds.
Also, when the engine is cold, check the cylindrical spacers on the exhaust manifold bolts; if you can rotate them by hand or with channel locks, you have a broken bolt.

Strange indeed, it sounds like the kind of sound I would possibly expect from a turbo actuator, but that shouldn’t be active with the key off.Originally Posted by Zane147
I would take a broomstick or wooden dowel, with your ear on one end, to see if you can pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from.
