The passenger map light (overhead console light) on my 2016 quit working.

After searching to see what bulb to order, I found that the trucks that came with factory LED’s have a built-in bulb that is not replaceable.

You have to buy the whole console assembly, which runs about $250, unbelievable.

So I did a little more reading and found most of the info below on other forums.

I decided to post what I did here for the benefit of our members.

The overhead console comes out by pulling straight down on the back of the outer edge.

The front has two tabs that slide into slots.

There are several YouTube videos on this.

After you get the console down a bit, unplug the various wire connectors.

Once you get the console disconnected, you separate the black part from the tan part to get at the area underneath.

I used a utility knife and cut the little nubs off, holding the chrome plastic pieces.

Just cut the top of the little nub off.

Then pry off the two chrome pieces.

Under there is the factory LED’s.

They pull straight out; you can now put your own 194 LEDs in.

You can use whatever color LED you like, but I opted to stick with white.

Please ensure the LEDs are low profile or may not fit.

I used the ones below.

You get 10 bulbs for 10 bucks.

Just take the little black adapter off the new LED, and you’re ready.

The chrome pieces can be super-glued back on, but I opted to drill and use small screws instead.

Some will say that LEDs last forever, so it’s OK to glue things back together - I say bullspit!

In my experience, LEDs will last anywhere from 1 day to 100,000 days.

It only took an extra 5 or 10 minutes.

Then before you put it all back together, plug the small white connector back in to test it out.

If one or both don’t light, try flipping the LED bulb around to fix the polarity.

If all is good, combine it and run with it.

The cheap LEDs I used are brighter than the factory and don’t cause any can bus issues or codes.

If you have a better method or have tried something different, please post what you did.
