1st Gen Lock Actuator - What is it and what does it do?

    1989, D250, 3spAuto, 2WD,

Driver's side lock didn't work, Passenger side still does. Opened up the door innards, lubed, no go.

Removed the part, (see photo) and patiently soaked the gears until they turn freely.

BUT what is the function of the little broken glass piece? The motor or solenoid, if you will, runs fine.

Survey says: Bi-metal switch, Thermal protection, Thermistor

Online inquiries have turned up jack. If I knew the function I can reasonably source a substitute.

I'm not interested in replacing the whole part with a new locking mechanism.

It's so very close to functioning correctly.
