Good Afternoon All,
New Cummins owner here! Actually the rig itself is 2016 3500, yet it was my Dad's until his recent passing, and now I'm taking the reins for the only new rig he ever purchased. I've been in the diesel game since 98 when I bought my first Powerstroke (a 96 which i still own). Over the years I've bought and sold a number of 7.3's and 6.0's, yet only ever crossed paths with one Cummins, a 93 5.9 12V. It was a farm rig which putzed around loaded to the gills with various items to keep a farm up and running. Never really tinkered with that rig very much, and eventually it was sold to a neighbor who still drives it to this day! Anyways, fast forward to 2016 and my Dad took the plunge and bought a brand spankin' new 3500 CCSB 4x4 6 speed Tradesman. He drove it up until his passing this last summer and now I have paid it off with plans to run it til the end.
Being familiar with basic mods and handy enough with tools for these rigs, my first step was to delete all the emission equipment, as this is a farm rig that lives off public roads. Clearly, times have changed, as when I started exploring the Cummins deletes I came across a ton of obstacles as to getting this rig breathing properly. Specifically, it appears to be darn near impossible to actually remove the emissions systems and simply run the exhaust straight through. I suppose if that's the way it is these days for even private rigs operated on private property, then so be it, yet if there is still a way in which we can legally delete the DPF's, CAT and EGR systems, I am ALL ears!! Again, I am not soliciting advice on doing anything illegal here...this is an OFF-HIGHWAY vehicle that operates on a family farm, so removing this stuff is well within the law as I understand it to be. Any help or guidance is appreciated and I'm grateful that resources such as these still exist.
I'll certainly have continued questions as I learn more, and look forward to learning more about this engine!
