This fight happened years ago in cars. The case was won to allow for race parts to be sold, the issue is with regulating the big over the road trucks. They are after them with a vengeance because the epa thinks it knows better.
The epa should really be targeting city busses but refuses to target the government or itself.

There is a setting in the ecm for government vehicles. I do believe it removes the emissions controls from the vehicle. Same is probably done for the military vehicles as there are separate settings for those too.

Omnibus bill Trump looks to sign.... AGAIN!
The bills increase the deficit by another $390 billion on top of the increases from previous years, placing spending levels well above Trump’s budget proposals in every year.
The bills contain record funding for the Institutes of Health, Head Start, Title I education funds for low-income children and Child Care and Development grants, all programs the president promised to slash.
EPA funding is massively increased to $9 billion, greater than the budget of ICE, which oversees 3.3 million illegal aliens.
Federal workers get a 3.1 percent pay raise, on par with that of the military.

I wasn’t even thinking about deleting mine until I read the epa.gov attachment.
The military doesn’t run this crap on their vehicles.
Why? Because it makes the vehicles unreliable.
Trains don’t have it, city buses, fire trucks either.
It’s kind of weird that the CARB has to pass any tunes or programming to be compliant with the EPA, a US Government agency.

Have to disagree with you about fire trucks.
They do have emissions on them and yes they do have issues all the time with DEF and EGR. Regens don’t work half the time, CEL’s, limp mode etc, etc...
City buses also has emissions on them too. I’ve seen a lot of cities going to total electric buses because of emissions failures.

Yea cause over here the diesel we run is dirty as crap half the time.
Emissions would fail constantly like it used to on my ram 2500 I use daily here.
