Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of any advantage or disadvantage to a hitch that is closer or further away from the receiver/ bumper.
I am currently running a hitch setup I picked up at Tractor Supply. It's a tri-ball contraption that drops the ball a few inches. I'm not sure what the hitch is rated for but I'm probably pushing the limits even on the 2 5/16 ball. It extends a considerable distance from the receiver which is nice when backing up in tight quarters as it clears the tool box mounted on the trailer tongue. I guess this is one advantage. I'm considering the GenY for its 16K rating.
Is it better to be as close as possible to the receiver or does it not really matter? Most loads are 10-14k.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
