I'm looking into painting my exhaust tip so I'm wondering how hot it gets back there. Most the paint in seeing goes up to 500-550. No towing, mostly in city driving.

Not sure if they make it anymore, but they had a bomb can with 1300 degree paint. I used it to paint my barrels on my old Harley last refresh of the upper end. Check the parts store, or the local Harley dealer.

I painted my exhaust about 3 months with the 500-550 paint and it still looks good.

See I'm not too worried about the amount of time it will last as long as it's longer than like a month. If I have to sand it down and repaint it once a year then so be it. I only ask about the 500-550 because I don't want to paint it a basic black color. I'm thinking purple or something.

Idk about wild colors, but mine hasn't faded or anything.

How many cans did it take to look nice? I was only thinking one.

It's only a 4" pipe, not the entire exhaust right ?
One can should give you several coats.

Longer than 4" I don't know how long it is. I've looked up different tips and most seem to be 18" maybe a little less. But correct, not the entire exhaust.

Normal exhaust is a 4" diameter exhaust pipe and most exhaust tips see from the street will be 18" in length or less. So if you consider the material surface to be painted, 1 cn is all you should need for 2 to 4 coats or more. That is what I meant. Sorry of the confusion.

LOL no worries, it doesn't really take much. I appreciate it though.
