AFC tuning/More pep out of my '97

I'm sure this post has been beatin' like a dead horse but would like a little more insight. I'm trying to get a little better acceleration out of my 12 valve, I have adjust the star wheel and smoke screw, noticed that with the star wheel all the way and smoke screw all the way up seemed to be more sluggish until 2300 rpms and above, I have also removed the fuel plate, I will soon enough replace the delivery valves and governor springs but working towards that...is there any advantage to blocking off the waste gate hose, other then disabling the waste gate and providing more boost pressure, truck is mostly stock aside from 4" turbo back exhaust, sorry again for probably the 1 millionth post about this, thanks

Hey bud, blocking the wastegate in my opinion wouldn't be the best idea.

Have you slid the AFC forward at All?

It took me alot of fine tuning when I was younger but me and a buddy managed to gain almost 100hp from doing all of this. Put it on a dyno as well so we had real numbers.

I haven't yet bolts are seized on it to move it forward, aside from moving it forward I'm going to cut the original fuel plate and swap the washers around on the plunger and see what difference that makes, I was looking at the marine injectors and delivery valves just not sure if I should build the head up from there, arp head studs yet go that far why not a Hamilton cam, all this in the hopes of a little more power

LOL! Yes sir I was in the same boat. After I got more power from tuning and adjusting I basically did and said the same things. I went ahead and got studs injectors turbo manifold push rods haha. Did everything but the cam.

If you can swing it, might as well build it while your in there.

If not then the power you'll gain just by tuning and dialing everything in will be well worth it alone!

Advantage of cutting the plate vs. Removing it? Was curious more fuel obviously doesn't exactly mean more power

It's better to cut the plate and put it back in so that your injection pump rack can't travel too far or run into the possibility of it getting stuck.

When you remove it, you basically take away the safety that keeps it from over fueling too hard and let's it fuel as hard as it can which means it runs the possibility of overfueling and losing power. I have heard of one truck running away and getting stuck at 3500 rpm. Had to kill the truck manually.

Yes sir your right, more fuel doesn't always mean more power. This is where you have to fine tune it and find the sweet spot.

Lots of stories around and topics around stating that when some people ran no plates some ran into pump issues and some never had an issue. Guess it depends on the truck.
