    P1011 & P0087 Code Help

I have a 2008 3500 with H&S Exhaust delete installed for the past 7 years with no problems running at the "wild" setting. My truck recently is showing trouble codes P1011 and P0087. I replaced the fuel filter first which didn't help. I then dropped the fuel tank and replaced the pump. The codes reappeared when accelerating with a trailer. Any suggestions on what to do next?

    Thanks,
    Jules

Being that both codes are persistent, it indicates a fuel supply issue prior to the CP3.

Have you tried checking to see what supply pressure is doing under load? Could simply be restriction somewhere. Obviously the filters are the first place to start.

    Ray,

Thanks for the reply. So this condition is definitely before the CP3 Pump?

I have not checked the pressure. I'll have to get some supplies and check.

    thanks for the suggestion.

Does Double R Diesel have a fuel pressure gauge kit or can you suggest one?

No I don't have one. You would have to rig up something to check the supply pressure just prior to entering the CP3...but this would also would have to done while the truck is under a load as well.

Going back to your other question...one code is for lower than expected rail pressure (which is dependent on CP3 output) and the other code is for low supply pressure (which is dependent on supply volume). Having both the codes tells me you supply pressure/volume is low under load which in turns starves the CP3 causing the low rail pressure.

Ok thanks for the info that makes total sense! So I guess the first thing is to trace the fuel line and check for any damage or pinch points then rig up a fuel pressure check.
