Took me about 45 mins to remove the housing and ring.

Do you have to remove the turbo from the manifold?

No just the compressor housing

Sorry for so many questions but how did you get at it? On top or through the wheel well?

I went through the top. Remove the intake and boost tube. The housing is held onto the turbo with a single clamp. Remove the clamp and the housing comes off. The ring is held in place with 3 pins. Use a small drill bit to drill out the pins and the ring comes out.

That "silencer" ring looks more like a "velocity" ring to me..... Mine stays in.
The only thing in the oil field that's for sure, is nothing is for sure.......

Removing the ring is a Cummins Forum thing. Those idiots haven't a clue what they are doing. And they say I give misinformation?
Removing the ring is a big mistake. You may not feel it, but I bet you lose 10% of your volume. The air goes into the turbo and hits a wall. Then it cavitates in front of the compressor. Look at the pictures guys. . . .there's no smooth flow! Sigh It's your truck. I'm just giving my opinion as an engineer
As Beeper said, it stays.
Why not put a turbo in the Runner? LOL Rich Ehrenburg wanted me to put a turbine on my 413. I hate big blocks.

With gas big blocks definitely have their places. It depends if you want high rev or low with big torque
In a mud truck running 50" + tires I'll take a BB with correct gearing
In the 44" range a small block turning 8500rpm with a stout transmission and 3k stall works for me
Just give me a tree18 and a 518 and I'll make 'em dance. LOL
