If you want to hear the turbo while driving, remove the ring...took about 30 minutes total! Whistle tune is only heard at idle or barely moving.

Does the ring out give it the whoosh sound all the time like the whistle tune? Or do you get the higher pitch in cab sound?

It's very pronounced from the turbo, not from the tail pipe.

It's there to improve the flow into the turbine. Reducing the noise is a side affect.

Do you want to know why? New remember I am and engineer for 40 years.

Think about how sound travels. It is vibrations in the air. Ever notice you can hear sounds better when the wind is blowing towards you? Like you local fire whistle. That said, the turbo flow with the ring sucks the sound into the intake. If you can hear the turbo whistle, the air is cavitating in front of the turbo. You are not getting the same volume of air with the ring out. The air is slamming into the flat surfaces in the mouth and bouncing back, taking the sound back out with it. The louder it is, the more the air is cavitating. Personally, I don't think I could tell the difference in performance. Jean gauges can be deceptive. The coolness overpowers the real results.

There is no difference in performance, only sound!

I removed mine several weeks ago, turbo is louder, haven't noticed anything else. I'll see if I can make a video today
