    Re: Valair or South Bend

Got my truck back today with the new clutch.

I'm definitely digging the feel of the engagement. It grabs much more abruptly.

I would estimate 30% more pedal effort required. I'm going to play the pushrod length and see if that changes anything.

The noise is definitely louder than I had expected and is louder than my buddies sb3250. Its not bad while driving tho and I am by no means complaining.

I ordered a bunch of oils today to change the diffs, t-case and trans to see if that decreases the noise.

I'll report back on that as soon as I do that.

After looking around for Mobil D , I went with Amsoil synthetic 50w and Amsoil syncromesh. I'm going to run 4qts of the 50w and 2-2.5qts of the syncromesh.

    Overall I am very pleased.

I concur with this. Got my truck back too. Clutch performs perfectly but gear roll over noise in neutral off the clutch pedal is loud. I'm running Mobil Delvac straight. Guess you have to trade off noise for holding power.

On side note...my pedal effort got easier with about 100 miles driving, or at least it seems that way.

I don't have 100 miles on mine yet. Hopefully mine will soften up a bit as well.

I didn't handle the stock clutch so I don't know much it weighs but I was shocked by how much the solid flywheel/dd weighs!

I perceived the truck as slower accelerating and don't know whether to attribute that to the engine possibly revving slower because there is no slip or if the rotating mass is that much heavier??

I dumped the atf fluid the other day and installed the TDS pto cover.

Filled it back up with a gallon of Amsoil Syn 50w and 3qts of Amsoil Synchromesh.

On initial startup the it sounded like it had the stock dual mass in it.

After some drive time, it is slightly louder than stock, but significantly quieter than it was with the ATF.

Obviously the cold weather isn't upon us yet but it shifts fine too.

    Hey everyone!

So, I'm in the same boat right now and not sure which to buy?

SB dual disc 550hp organic or ceramic ORRRR Valair dual disc up to 550hp organic quiet spring or not?

SB is 1500 and valair is around 1300 unless i got the quiet one then its 1500.

I don't tow much right now but max is around 5k# maybe 10k in the future.

The max on my tune (DRD tuned) will be 90hp when stock is 350 so max 440hp.

    It's my daily driver 2017 2500 32k miles, leveled with 35's.

    Thank you all in advanced!

P.S with a tight budget wife gave me the OK to purchase a clutch finally

If you go Valair, get the quiet version or it'll rattle like crazy.

I have the South Bend SDD3250 on mine.

    It's a ceramic/organic combo.

    I really like it.

Very close to stock feel when it grabs.

It does get a bit jumpy when engaging in reverse with a trailer or backing up an incline.

80k or so on mine and it still performs great.

I would shy away from a full ceramic material.

    Engagement will be very grabby.

    Thank you.

So far everyone I've spoke to went with SB organic.

So that's what I went with.

Just ordered and now the fun part happens when it arrives.

Dan has been around clutches since a young boy.

    He is a straight shooter.

Valair is who I will go with.
