Engine fuel filter lid was a pain!

So the last time I had my filters changed at the dealer but will replace them myself from now on. The engine filter cap would not budge with a 3/8 ratchet so I stepped up to a 1/2 inch ratchet with a long handle which did the job but still bloodied some knuckles. Would a flex head ratchet work better for the cap removal?

I use a wobble socket and a long extension...they may not have greased the o-ring which could make it hard to get off.

Yes flexhead ratchet and 20" extension did you have the right socket it is 28mm not a 1 1/8" you also need a long handle flex head ratchet to get the right amount of torque to break the cap loose
Genos garage now has a anodized aluminum cap for the 4th gen Cummins with a metal head bolt
That I will put on next time I change my fuel filter

I used a 1 1/8 socket but felt very secure on the cap. It is in a tight spot and will probably look into getting an aluminum cap from geno's also. I reassembled with some motor oil on the oring and threads

i had the same issue when i changed mine over the summer. I really thought i was going to break the housing before the cap came loose. i oiled the lid well before putting it back on so hopefully it wont be so bad when i change it next time.

I put my fuel filter cap back on and only tightened just snug and then the next time I tried to get my fuel filter cap and it was just as tight the first time I believe that the cap get vacuumed sealed on !

I took the time to torque it to spec which i believe was like 13.8 nm. Hopefully its not so hard to remove this next time but i doubt it.

I just picked up the aluminum cap from @Geno's Garage, I'll let you know in about 20K miles if it makes any difference.

I always thought the dealer impacted all caps and filters on so you want to turn it in.

I’m in a pickle...the lid started to move and then my socket slipped. No the nut is rounded off....I have tried a strap wrench, but am scared I am going to break the entire housing.....
