    Rough idle

    I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 24V 6spd 4x4.
When I turn truck in warm or cold temperature the truck seems to sound like it has a lope tune. (Not normal)
    Truck is all stock.
When I give it gas it doesn't seem to kick up unless I lower the gear and run the rpms up.
Once I get to second gear the truck does not accelerate until it hits 2k rpms. I changed the fuel filter 2 days ago and still giving me problems. I reset my apps sensor and still nothing changing.
Can anyone tell me what's going on so I can head the right way about fixing it.

Thank you for the kind introduction.

My very first Priority would be to check fuel pressure - ASAP. The most common problem on VP44 trucks was the failure of the electric lift pump. When it fails the truck will (usually) still run, but the injection pump overheats due to lack of cooling return flow through the pump. Very highly advise to check fuel pressure before driving it any more - should be in 10 - 13 PSI range approximately.

    Thanks!

Hey thanks for the response. The Truck has 180k and the trucks starts up just fine but once it's on it'll go into a lope tune sound. And I drive it 40 miles every day to work on the highway. I drive it normal. 65-70mph max

I forgot to mention that it does blow some blue/black smoke while idling. Maybe injectors?

An injector issue is most certainly a possibility - just want to rule out the fuel pressure first just to be on the safe side.

Fuel pump is good! My guess it's an injector. Question is what typ of injector should I go with?

Depending on how much down time is acceptable for you, we could test the injectors to make sure we are barking up the right tree so to speak before you spend the money.
If you did go the injector route, were you thinking stock injectors, or a performance injector?

Steve - we do stock VP44 lift pumps also.
