Could you give us more info on when how you began having issues?

You used an MM3, then added Amp Research steps, and now MM3 doesn't work?

Or were both working and now suddenly not?

If you're doing passthrough/splitter - Are you using the recommended Amp Research splitter or an Amazon?

    Lastly, the Year/Model truck.

With this info, we might be able to help further.

I used the amp splitter, and the tuner has always had the splitter/step setup.

It worked for maybe a year, then all of a sudden truck was running horribly on and off.

Turbo was acting crazy, then suddenly, MM3 went black, and the truck runs great.

    Has check engine codes

Curious if it could be due to low voltage, which will cause the MM3 to react slowly, sending and receiving commands.

This is a hit-and-miss with particular trucks.

Would the possible root cause be weak batteries or a failing alternator, then?

@Norice1973 - How old are your batteries?

If one battery is bad, you should replace both simultaneously.

I would load-test the batteries to find out there in good shape.

If they are, I would then test your alternator.

Fairly confident this is the issue you are experiencing.

Everything was great, and then the MM3 acted up, "which will throw sporadic codes" due to low voltage, " I assume."

The turbo acting wonky would also contribute to this, being low voltage, probably only receiving half the commands given and receiving.

Ok, so, 2012 CC, MM3, DRD tuning.

I'm looking at the AMP steps with the splitter.

    Do you recommend hard wire?

I hate to ruin a good thing (MM3).

Just looking to do a step update.

    Thanks, friends.

Splitters are not recommended for MM3.

It could cause issues with it.

I would recommend hardwire, have not had an issue with mine since I did the hardware.
