Then there is something different on a 13 to a 15. Mine won't go straight down. My 2012 did no problems. My 15 no go LOL.

I was so happy with my 15, it "had" a plastic shield under the oil filter, I left it in place and found that the mess created justified removing said shield. It was a pain to remove but I will no longer have the 4 to 5 day oil drips from my trucks frame. Now it is a straight through shot from underneath just like my 06.

Hmmmm? I'll have to look into that further.

My '16 is the same way but I don't think its just a plastic shield that can be removed. I found that using Geno's filter cap is the easiest method to changing the filter without making a mess. You can remove the filter from the engine bay, but you need to remove the piece of your intake that goes from the airbox down to the turbo. Time and mess wise my vote is going with Geno's filter cap. Spend the $20 and save yourself some headaches.

Air filter takes 2 Min to remove. Oil filter is in plain site

Or buy the filter cap from genos, go through the hole in the inner fender that is already there, (no cutting), and save 2 minutes. To each their own I guess. Takes me about 5 minutes to completely change it out with a new filter that way.

I was reading a thread here last week that of course I can't find, but a few mentioned the difficulty reaching and removing the filters on the 4th gen trucks. It had been a year since I did my first oil change so I didn't chime in but I didn't remember there being any issues. I know some suggest wrapping a zip lock bag around the filter etc...my brother works at a truck shop and taught me this trick. On my '13, I reach the filter from under the truck without any problem, not thru the fender well or anything . Hopefully the filter is only hand tight. Loosen it just a little bit to make sure it will come off. Then I take a big alignment bar about 2 feet long with a sharp point. I put a long trans oil funnel up there and it stays there on its own. There is room to put the bar beside it and up to the bottom of the filter and punch a hole in the bottom of the filter and let it drain into the funnel above the drain pan. That keeps the oil from running down the front suspension linkage and making a mess. Once the filter stops draining, there will be more once you completely break the seal so keep the funnel there and let the remainder drain out. Not rocket science but it makes the job a lot cleaner.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...70a9349ec2.jpg
