I was going to put this in the members journal but since I'm not "building" my truck and only doing a few minor cosmetic things I thought maybe truck bragging was more appropriate.
So, I just built a head ache rack for my Cummins. Finished it about 2 weeks ago. I mainly built it because I wanted tie down points for straps and something to mount lights on. I got some LED clearance lights off eBay for cheap and wired them up and plumbed all the wire through the 2" steel tubing I welded it out of. I actually took a plasma cutter and cut holes in it along where my wiring runs and covered them with plates so if I ever have issues with lights or wanna plumb more wires through it I can just remove the plates and do all that quite easily. The only thing I want to really add to it yet are work lights. I welded some tabs off each top corner where I plan to mount them, and I want to wire it up to a separate switch in my truck cab that j can turn on and off from there. I'm not sure how I'm going to do that yet, but I'll worry about it when I get the lights to do so. Maybe eventually I'll add some hog paneling or something to help protect the back window too.. Considering I only have a little less than $105 into it; I think it turned out pretty well! May not look as clean as one that you can just buy offline but it's less expensive than a lot of them and built heavier and I think I have more tie down points than a bunch of them. Pretty cool, eh?
