    Oakridge Tennessee

So, I'm from Pittsburgh, and I'm a chemistry major in college. I was just accepted to an internship at the Oakridge National Laboratory in Oakridge, Tennessee. I'll be taking the ol' Cummins for the trip and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the area and what I should do during the 3 months there. I'm all ears!

@morticianman1990 and welcome to the forum.

If you looking for some place to see in Tennessee, try Gatlinburg, it's a mountainous area and more sites than you can shake a stick at. They have an Indian Cultural center that has native entertainment about 20 minutes from Gatlinbury and is in the Cherokee Reservation.

Downtown Nashville has plenty of places that could be of interest. But the state is loaded with historical civil war sites. When your traveling along the highway, like I-40, stop at most rest stops that have facilities and they have all kinds of maps and area suggestions.

But remember, Tennessee is very long and skinny. You have plenty of states all around you. And for the most part, if you look at a map, you in the center of an area that covers from Canada to the Gulf and the Atlantic to the Mississippi river. Most places you might want to see is usually a days drive.

Just watch your skinny pedal, the cops don't cotton to speeders much.

X2 on visiting Gatlinburg if you are anywhere close. And the cops...even 5 over can attract attention when you have out of state tags.

I'll have to keep that in mind! I'll be there for 3 months so I'll probably get used to it I guess

Almost forgot, since your going to Oakridge National Laboratory, check out the history of that area and what happen during, but especially after WW2. Heck of a history, and they took no bull.
And if memory serves me right, diesel is a tad cheaper than the state your hailing from. They have many coal rollers there.

southern middle TN has alot of truck and tractor pulls during the spring and summer. Lyons super pull of the south is usually great if your down this way when its going on.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I've been having a great time down here. The old girl made it down safe and sound, only a few hiccups down here as well. Having no a/c isn't as bad as I thought either haha
