My First Retro - Adding Projectors And HIDs To My 2012 RAM

I finally set aside some time to start my first projector retrofit.

Given all the issues I read about guys having trouble opening up their factory lights, I decided to leave my stock quads alone and picked up a set of black and clear Depot lights from Amazon.

Paint and supplies were ordered through eBay.

The V3 projectors and the rest of the lighting components came from DDM Tuning. <fingers crossed>

    $130 for the headlights
$125 for the projectors and HIDs (DDM was running a great sale)
$40 for paint and misc supplies
    About $300 total.

Start by taking all the screws and wiring out of the headlights. <Sorry, no pics of that step>

Oven set to 210* for 8 mins to loosen things up and back in for 5 more mins at a time until they came apart quickly.

Plan to do this 2-3 times. DO NOT try to force them apart before they are ready.

You will warp them or break something.

    3 coats of auto-grade primer.

2 coats of True Blue Pearl.

    Clearcoat applied and cured.

    Projectors installed.

You put them back together in reverse order.

Place the bezel back in the housing and replace the lens.

Press them together to line them up, but you need to put the whole thing back in the oven for 5 mins or so to loosen up the adhesive, then you can press them together for good.

I ran a thin layer of silicone around the seam for extra protection.

    All finished

The DDM HID H13 to H1 relay harness made wiring up the HIDs a breeze.

The only tricky part was finding a place for the relays and ballasts.

    Tips:
    1. Be patient!! Do not rush taking them apart!
    2. Make sure to have a clean soft surface to set them on while taking them apart.
3.use gloves because they will be hot!
    4. Be gentile with the lens. Clean soft towel or similar to lay them on. They scratch easy!
    5. Be patient!!
    6. Make sure you have enough time set aside for this project! 48hrs min IMO
    7. Allow paint to cure 24hr min
    8. Not necessary but using new butyl tape/rope is suggested. Other sealing measures will work.
    9. Heat them to put back together same way you take them apart.
    10. Use a strap or similar to keep pressure on them until completely cooled off and sealed.
Please feel free to add to this list!

Not sure how I missed this thread but I recently picked up an additional set of quads for $60 to retrofit some projectors. Looking forward to getting this project underway!

Having an extra set of headlights really takes the pressure off for sure!! My main piece of advice, don't force anything. When they are completely warmed up they will pull right apart.

And for only $60, I couldn't pass them up! Ok, on the H1, V3 projectors with GG shrouds and the quad headlight, can I use a set of H11 HIDS that I already have and just use the stock high beam bulb or do I need to get the H1 HID bulbs?

No kidding $60 is a steal!!

You have to get new H1 bulbs. The base on the H11s will not fit the H11 socket on the V3s.

Gotcha...so it'll work as a bi-xenon bulb with the correct harness or will I still be able to use the factory halogen. High beam?
