If the converter were locking, it would most likely stall the engine

I've had one car that would just do what he is describing and not stop the motor. If something is taking control of the throttle it would do it all the time.

Whatever it is, it's dangerous. I've never scene this before. I'd have to see it to know more. If the engine revs up when put in gear, and the converter is locking, it's tearing up that trans. There is still an erroneous signal telling the can to accelerate. The system is not supposed to do that. Can Bus is supposed to prevent run away

In Toyota's case, they claimed it was the TPS. That was bull. You couldn't even shut them off.

My first knee flinch on this was the TPS, But you need a higher level scan tool, the specs, and a skilled set of eyes.

My suggestion is to find a dealer who knows diesels

I’m wondering if you ever got this problem figured out?

My 05 is doing the same thing.

And yes it’s unsafe to drive.
