All this sounds like to me is a way for GM to "stifle" competition and gain an advantage or edge over everyone else. This is no different than any other electronic device (Apple, Windows or Android) that doesn't want a consumer to modify their respective OS. The right to repair battle has been on going and this is just another piece of that. I hope this doesn't happen because it will unlock the door for EVERY manufacturer to do the same. If this does go through I am curious how they plan to enforce it. Void warranty? Does the consumer sign a disclosure with penalties if the software is modified? Hmm...
