I'm starting to think injectors or low pump pressure. We can only go by what you say. We can't see it

Let's ask our resident injector vendor what he thinks. @AccurateDiesel

I am wondering if he is loosing his pressure at the injectors while it sits.

Hi! I'm not quite as well-versed on the VP44 systems as the common rail, but willing to help where I can. I am recalling one VP44 system that we fixed not too long ago that for some reason would loose prime overnight. Here is a little trick you can try - just after you shut the truck off next time, quickly (and completely) crimp off the fuel feed line to the injection pump with a set of hose pinch off pliers. The next morning, just before you are ready to start cranking the truck, have somebody release the pliers. If it now starts right up then we have a drain-back problem. The last one I saw we put an anti-drainback check valve in and solved the problem.

This is a common problem with the vp44 trucks. There is a fuel overflow valve on the return side of the vp44 injection pumps that wear out over time and will help cause hard start issues
