I would say intake, but I'm sure that falls into personal preference. I know the stock intake on the 6.7's flow really well, not sure on the 24v.

Intake and exhaust is always a nice upgrade.

Is intake necessary for bullet proofing?

no just keep a eye on it when you change your filter that it is not starting to bend or collapse
up here I have had issues with them getting plugged up with snow and bend braking the seal around the edge of the stock box

I mainly get an intake as one of my first mods simply for the better quality filter so i'm not worried about that seal. and save money in the long run on replacement cost by being able to clean and reuse the filter. I went with AFE because of the "pro dry s" filter that isnt oiled but from the tests i've seen flow and filter better than factory. everyone i've heard talk about running the S&B filters are saying they are the way to go. I just dont like dealing with the oil. Stay away from K&N. For every person that says they have one and haven't had any issues there's at least 2 other people that have had a dusted turbo because of them. If you stay stock intake, stay with stock filters, dont get the drop in versions of the "high performance" filters, 9 times out of 10 they wont seal right in the box and let dust and crap around them and there again, your dusting your turbo.
