I got it mastered. Thought I would vent
Last week when I did the timing tone ring mod, I saw one edge of the Serpentine belt fraid. I didn't give it a second thought. Yesterday a revelation struck me that something was wrong. So I looked. A third of the belt was missing.
Ever since I installed that belt it was squeaking. I realized it had stopped when I came back from Delaware 2 weeks ago. There were flap marks everywhere. I'm glad it didn't get the crank sensor and didn't fail completely.
So I call my CarQuest and they said they had one and would warranty it for me. What a bunch of guys. However, they don't have DayCo any more, it's now Gates. Armed with a long 1/2 in ratchet I drove over there, removed the belt and exchanged it. 20 minutes later, I was running again.
I left it idling with the A/C running, washed my hands and went back out to find a spaghetti pile under the truck. The new belt snapped across the flat. Clearly a product failure. Makes me wonder how may other people got stuck.
I had to wait an hour while they got another one. Sigh
