The Road To Near Perfect Steering

I'll try to make it quick.

I did all this chasing noises driving as they drove me crazy.

Rebuilt dynatrac balljoints, front axle u-joints,new Carli trac bar, rebuilt Carli control arms, new apex steering assy, last addition was PSC steering box.

I had a synergy steering box stabilizer, but I left the bearing out of it this time with the PSC and just kept it to help the frame some.

PSC says no brace known to work with their box, but they dont do any research, so yeah, there is.

A one side brace, and this Synergy will fit.

I have it with my Thuren anti sway bar, and everything is working well.

I can tell you the apex steering assy and the box were the most noticeable fixes.

It steers straight now and is tight.

So it looks like my popping noise was from my Borg steering shaft—15k miles on it.

All the other stuff was bad, except my Redhead steering box.

Looks like it was good after all.

The PSC is nice, but I didn't need it after all.

So I will call Borg and see what their warranty is all about.

I put my oem shaft back in and it feels great with no noise.

It felt good when i removed it the 1st time, but I wanted a more solid one.

Waste of time and money.

Just hoping my anguish can help people diagnose their issues.

So, I sent my defective shaft to Borg.

They said the lower joint had faulty isolation bushings in the vibration-isolating side of the coupling.

The entire lower joint was replaced, and we replaced the boot.

I got it back and put it in my vice and pulled on it and it pops, so they sent me another new shaft assy too, and it pops too.

So I'm unsure if I want to put this thing back in after all my headaches, and now it's good with the OEM shaft.

I did like how it tightened up everything a little better.

Maybe it was just the joint popping, and now it's new and will be good, but I don't know.

I will enjoy not working on it for a minute before I try the Borg again.

I have to work on the boat now, it's summertime in the south.

I performed my much-avoided steering box replacement last weekend.

It was the root cause of everything else I tried.

Play gone.

Wooshing power steering noises are also gone.

New Mopar box and pitman; 80k mile factory box out.

Man that box brace and sway bar were a pain to get back in there solo.

If I ever have to take them out again, I'll be seeing how the truck does without either.

The play is gone, but now there is too much small bump steering input. (I had attempted to adjust the old box and had it too tight over the center, so bump inputs were fairly muted.)

I will try a new stabilizer and dial back the caster if I need it toned down.
