Do You Love Or Hate Your 5th Gen?

Man, I do really love my truck.

They look fantastic; I love the interior styling, but geez, what a piece of **** mine is.

That's probably why it got traded in.

    I'm at 52K Miles now.

I am already experiencing the following issues.

    1. Lifter failure.
    2. Oil Pressure Switch failure.
    3. Transmission shifts like ****.
    4. 4WD engaging often errors out and requires more than one attempt.
    5. 120VAC connection in the bed doesn't work anymore.
    6. The heated steering wheel doesn't function properly.
    7. Uconnect Screen feels like it's in beta testing, will randomly restart just driving down the road, loses audio, you name it.

I'm considering the Hamilton Flat Tappet conversion or just trade it in on a 25-26 and see how that new transmission is, and I hope they fixed the lifter issue.

Anyways, just bitching because, damn, the truck makes me smile, but it blows my mind that an $85,000 truck has this many issues at 2 years old and 40-50K miles.

I bought a Cummins because I thought they were the most reliable powertrain of the big 3.

It turns out that ended in 2019, and I didn't get the memo.

    I hate to hear that.

I just purchased a used 2023 2500 Big Horn with under 40 thousand miles on it.

    I hope I didn't make a mistake buying it.

So far, it seems to be okay, other than the TIPM had to be replaced for continuously blowing a trailer turn signal fuse.

I believe my truck is just a "lemon," but the lifter issue is very real; I doubt it's the magnitude of, say, the LS/Hemi DOD Lifter failure, but, sadly, they decided to change up a tried and true valvetrain and somehow botched something as simple as a hydraulic lifter, not to mention some of the 2019s have casting flaws in the lifter bosses on the block and have to get entire short blocks replaced to resolve the problem.

From what I'm seeing on other forums, dealerships aren't doing anything about most of the trucks coming in with noisy lifters.

They certainly didn't help me pre or post-weight loss.

They told me to drive it.

So I'm going to wait until it eats the cam.

Re: Do You Love Or Hate Your 5th Gen?

I love my 22 RAM 3500 SRW HO, but I've had some speed bumps along the way.

Aisin went boom at just under 10K miles, and I was in the shop one day shy of 10 weeks.

Then, 15K miles, she started constantly Regenerating.

It took them 45K to replace the DPF, which cured the problem for about 20K miles.

Around 80K miles, I started using Archoil (6400 cleaner once in a while and 6500 treatment every tank).

This helps, but I still Regenerate more often than I should.

I just hit 92K this morning, and if I tow the emission system, it works great.

If I'm running empty, the filter fills up and automatically Regenerates.

Everyone talks about the '18 is a great year, but I had to replace a head on mine at around 200K miles, and just after, I ordered my '22.

I would remove all the emission components, but I use this in a commercial application. I am just concerned that the fine would be at the corporate level, not at the individual level (the company owns the truck).

I deleted my 13 due to a national back order with no ETA SCR, and my partners were not overly happy.

The stock tune and 3.73 gears are light years ahead of my '13 and '18 with 3.42's.

The air ride and Cummins engine are what keep me coming back.

I just wish the noose wasn't so tight around the emissions.
