    Help Identifying Noise?

I thought I knew what was causing it: the front wheel hubs.

I got under it a few minutes ago, and U joints are tight, drive shafts are tight, the wheels have 0 movement side to side, and the same slight bump that has been there for years when checking up and down.

I did rear diff fluid, trans fluid, filters, and my standard oil, fuel, and air filters and oil change before a big trip.

I towed a 28-foot travel trailer around 900 miles round trip.

I had 0 issues the entire trip, and two days after doing some around-town driving, I started getting this rotational noise.

It only happens when it's cold and goes away, at least for now, when it's warm.

I know you said wheels have no play.

Have you lifted the front end off the ground and spun the front tires by hand?

It sounds like a wheel bearing is starting to go bad.

    Yes, I did.

Although it was after driving it last night.

It’s not a constant sound, so maybe I need to do it again cold.

I was sure it sounded like a bearing getting stuck.

Well, it's worse than a hub, well, maybe.

I got a code tonight while getting up to speed on the interstate.

    P0944 hydraulic pressure loss.

I guess I'm dropping the pan and checking the filter.

That's a good plan; hopefully, it's just a loose filter.

See the attached troubleshooting information for the P0944 trouble code.

The can filter was backed out at least 3/4 a turn.

I would assume that 170 PSI would be enough.

I'm going to get new filters just in case in the morning.

It is still only 30psi at any point.

    I guess I'm not lucky.

    Re: Help Identifying Noise?

    I'm back again.

I finally got to finish dropping the transmission.

I should have dropped the pan again.

The pick-up tube gasket was not seated into the pump.

So here goes buttoning it back up and putting it back in.

    Re: Help Identifying Noise?

Since I now know what was causing the noise, I will move the post to the transmission section as a new post.

Let me tell you, it’s a good one.

The input drum cleared its own spot in the center support.
