I couldn't find anything on the forums, so I figured I'd ask here.
So yesterday, I started my truck with no problem because I had to move it from the loading zone to where we strap down.
I started with no problem and shut off the truck for about an hour while I secured my load.
I then jumped in and went to start the truck, but there was nothing, as it wouldn't turn over.
There is no sound, not even when trying, no clicking noise or anything.
So, I began going through everything I could think could be this issue.
I checked the battery terminals and voltage; all were tight and had 12.78 Volts.
I hit the starter with a hammer to see if that would work while I had my wife try to turn it over, and nothing.
(There is no sound at all, even when trying.) I checked the IGN, and it seemed to be okay.
I could hear the switch kicking over when I tested it.
I checked the wires to the starter, and nothing was loose.
I checked, and there was power at the starter, and yes, it was still 12.7 volts.
I could pop the clutch while rolling to start it, but the same thing happened again when I shut it off.
So I pop-started it a second time.
I've had to keep the truck on and let it idle, which I hate doing.
I've never let it sit idle for long periods other than when starting up or cooling down after driving for hours.
Tomorrow, I will unload the truck, shut the truck off, and do the starter wire test to bypass the solenoid to see if it starts.
If it does, I don't think it's the starter, possibly just the solenoid.
I don't think it's either because it would at least make a clicking sound when it tries to start.
I don't think it's the ignition switch because I'm not having issues with it turning on dash lights, and it doesn't flicker or cut out like the symptoms say it would if the ignition switch.
So, I'd like suggestions on things I can check and test before buying parts and replacing things that may not be right.
How can I test solenoid?
How do I test stthe arter?
How do I test the ignition switch?
What fuses and relays should I check?
How can I check amps from batteries?
Any suggestions on this would help.
Again, I want to review all of it repeatedly before replacing the starter.
The part that gets me is that it makes no noise and has power.
All lights on the dash work, and everything operates normally, but I get nothing when I try to start.
Sorry for repeating myself, but I want to diagnose this so I can return to work.
I've had anxiety idling my truck, but until I'm unloaded, it's my only option.
Thank you, everyone!
