Thread: P1207 Generator 2 Open Circuit?

    P1207 Generator 2 Open Circuit?

Okay, everyone, I am at a loss with this one.

    So I have a 2017 RAM 2500 running a RaceME Ultra.

Side note: the truck has dual alternators.

I have noticed nothing different with the truck, and the no dash lights or anything out of the ordinary have popped up.

About two days ago, I was digging around in my RaceME Ultra and wanted to click into DTC to see if it had any hidden codes, and to my surprise, it had one.

It read: P1207 generatortwo2 open circuit.

I called the local shop to find out if it was related to the alternator.

They believe it’s either a fuse or the driver-side alternator is on its way out.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this issue before?

Is it normal for the truck not to throw a dash light but still to have a DTC on the tuner?

Also, I checked all connections to make sure nothing was lost.

I will likely test voltage and all that fun stuff tonight, but I figured I’d ask while I’m at work.

    See the troubleshooting information attached.

First, try clearing the code and see if it returns.

Many trouble codes (DTCs) don’t light the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).

    Awesome.

I have tried clearing and restarting the code but to no avail.

So, I will run through this and see what I can figure out!

    I appreciate the response.

    No problem, happy to help.

I was looking over the troubleshooting information, and on step #3, they mentioned checking the (A916) battery sense circuit for short to the auxiliary battery.

The (A916) wire is not shown on their partial wiring diagram, so I have attached the full charging system diagram.

As you can see, the (A916) wire comes from fuse #52 and goes to the Intelligent Battery Sensor.

    So the weirdest thing happened.

I verified that all connections were tight, disconnected the fuses, reconnected them, and started the truck, but I forgot to clear the code before restarting it.

The code was there when I restarted the truck, but I drove home for about 30 minutes, sat in the driveway, and shut the truck off.

I decided to clear the code and restart the truck to see what it would do, but there was no code.

So, I'll do some testing tomorrow and see what happens.

I don't think it's a freak incident, but one of the fuses was dirty underneath, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Usually, when I first started the truck, it would populate the code almost instantly.

I let it idle for a few minutes and then shut her off.

Sounds like the poor connection on the fuse was the culprit, hopefully!
