    2006 Dodge RAM 5.9L Cummins - 300K Concerns?

I am considering purchasing a 2006 5.9L with a little over 300k on the clock.

Two individuals have owned the truck.

The first one has a meticulous service HX on carfax.

Oil and filters every 5k miles for eight years that they owned it.

2nd owner has done pretty much the same thing, as well as adding Lucas on every fill-up.

The truck has a tuner, but according to the current owner, who has had it for the last nine years, it is only for towing and increased trans line pressure on the trans.

He does not have a valve body installed in the 48RE, just some things to increase the pressure.

Sorry, I do not know much about the 48RE.

Truck drives as expected, smooth shifts, etc. ZERO blowby, and according to the current owner, everything is pretty much bone stock.

Looking underneath the truck, I could not find a leak of anything anywhere, i mean, it is nuts.

The body has zero paint fade and only 1 ouchie, which is not that big of a deal.

It's leveled with 35-inch tires on stock wheels.

I didn't notice it smoking during the test drive.

The steering seems a little loose; he claimed to add Carli ball joints.

It may need a steering gearbox as the truck does wander some.

I am trying to wrap my head around what might be down the road or what other things I should look for.

I mean, I get that it has 300K, but bone stock on pretty much everything?

Thoughts, ideas, and suggestions would be much appreciated.

I know only a few things about the 5.9Ls.

For a steering box, with my experience, you just can't go wrong with the 6-bolt redhead steering box " with the steering bracket."

I had so much play in the wheel before I upgraded, Les Swabs asked how I even limped it in.

From the 3 clock to 9 clock, I had no reaction from the steering wheel.

Not only was I an idiot for driving that long to get it fixed, but I was also a more significant threat to others on the road.

I might check the upper and lower control arm bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints if she has 300k miles.

Is it original turbo, injectors, high pressure fuel pump, lift pump?

Those would be my main concern associated with the mileage.

Those items are not cheap, and the labor will hit you with the other foot in the groin if you have a shop install.

With the service history, it tells me the internals should be good to go, "I'm also a huge believer in Luca's products."

    Corkey has some great advice.

Another is to check your track bar.

A worn-out track bar can cause your truck to wonder, too.

Sounds like the truck was well taken care of.

Post some pics when you get the chance.

Everything on the Truck is bone stock except an upgraded solenoid pack in the trans for increased line pressure.

At temps, there are zero blowby Injectors are stock.

I am mechanically mindful and feel confident about doing most of the work, like injectors.

I anticipate needing to replace those soon and adding a FASS to it.

The truck was clean underneath it, not clean like it's been freshly cleaned,

You can tell that there is no grime build-up on it from fluids leaking, and the seller tried to hide it with a fresh cleanup job before showing it.

The oil was dark but not dirty.

Trans fluid looked clear, with some slight discoloration.

It is not burnt, but it is not perfect either. Oil pan gasket was clean, trans pan, same thing.

    Thanks for the reply.
