    Broken Pieces On G56 Magnet?

    Okay, all short and simple.

Can anyone identify these pieces in a G56 transmission?

I found them stuck to the magnet while changing fluid today.

The first image appears to be a very small ball detent along with the spring and tube, and the second seems to be a retainer for said detent.

They are much smaller than the 2 in the shift tower.

There was some junk stuck to the magnet, too.

The gears appear perfect by the topside inspection, and the trans was rebuilt by the dealer 75k miles ago at 60k.

I wonder what this is so I can figure out if it was left behind or not.

I used this for a sample to view.

The little pieces appear to be the pieces you have in the picture.

Your bigger piece looks like a broken piece of a bearing housing to me.

    I'm afraid I don't quite understand.

    That is a clutch?

It shows how much I know about the G56.

I'm more familiar with the 68s.

Clutches on the G56 are in the Bell housing.

@Badger2078 Call me an idiot, and I'll take it on the chin like a man, my tail is tucked between my legs LOL.

Further research I had done, @watersupply189 I think you are onto something there.

Shouldn't I notice some issue or difference if that is a synchro?

The 1st gear syncro failed at 60 and locked the trans up.

The dealer rebuilt it, and I wonder if it was just left behind or not.

    I don't know.

If it still shifts well, then I would tend to think it is left over from the first failure.

I don’t think it was left behind.

    At least, I hope not.

    I’m a clean nut.

When it comes to assembly, you have to be.

Been a couple of years since the last tranny rebuild, so trying to jog my memory on this.

Might be hard to tell, do you have any sort of resistance in shifting in any particular gear?

Are there any noticeable grinding sounds besides missing a gear on accident or trying to re-match the RPMs to shift?

Syncros can pre-maturely prevent using the wrong oil as well.

Or the dealer could have installed the synchro's with faulty or bad quality parts.

Or better yet, these are from the previous rebuild and were lodged somewhere and finally came free and hit the magnet.

I honestly don't know what the pieces are, I'm just trying to dig up things to help out.

I have no personal experience with the G56, that's why I'm trying to gain a little with you on this one.

Re: Broken Pieces On G56 Magnet?

The trans is super notchy in the shifts and slowly goes into gear from a stop.

I have a Madd heavy triple disk, but it has been since the dealer "fixed" it last time.

The trick was in the air at their shop for 93ish days.

They only replaced the 1st gear synchro and said the synchro ring blew up.

However, there has been no change for quite some time.

I will lean toward them not cleaning it out, and if it ever starts getting troublesome, I'll split it myself.

It is supposed to have a lifetime warranty on the trans through the dealer after the factory warranty expired, but they tried so hard not to honor the factory warranty and 90 days.

    Come on.
