    Boost After Tuning?

I am new to cummins but not Diesel.

I tuned my truck with RaceME Ultra box tunes and liked them.

I was running my truck down the highway today with a bit of pep, and I hit 40 psi of boost.

    This seems maybe too high.

    Opinions?

I was on tune 2 (Tow).

My goal is not to float ahead and to run safely.

I dont mind running stock tune if you think 40 is too much.

Most likely, I think it spiked to 40 because when I started watching it, it stayed around 32 psi under hard acceleration.

I just saw the max (below the actual reading) was 40 psi.

You will be fine with 32 psi maximum sustained.

The stock MAP sensor won’t read over 36 psi.

You would want a 5-bar map sensor to read higher than 36psi.

Remember, it's a pain to tune with specific sensors out there.

The best and easiest way is to use an analog gauge and plum the line to the intake.

5 bar map sensor. (-1 bar to +4bar)
-14.5 PSI to +58 PSI Absolute pressure sensor
    -14.5 PSI = 0.5 Volts, 58 PSI = 4.5 Volts
    Outputs 0.5V to 4.5V
    Input 5V

When I had the stock turbo, my RaceME Ultra would also give me readings above 36 PSI.

I know for sure it has read 40 PSI before.

Now, with the second-gen swap and custom tunes, it won't be over 36 like it should.

To answer OP, I hit 36+ PSI on my stock turbo more times than I can count with stock head bolts.

The turbo worked fine when I pulled it out with 160k miles or so on it.

I never had mine set to below the 120 hp setting. I ran the 150-200 hp tune frequently.

I also had some other settings turned up; I'm unsure if the 5th gens have those.

I am not telling you it's safe, just my experience.

My advice is to get some head studs and stop worrying about it.

Mine won't read above 36 psi, which hits very quickly at the start of a long pull.

I have never put another gauge on it.

The guy who does my tuning figures, I'm up around 60.

Your monitor may be calibrated to read from 0 and not from normal atmospheric pressure, which would add a few psi.

    I made an 18’ fit.

I can take pics if you need them, so you can do the same if that’s what you're looking to do.

    I am interested.

Was there a lot more room?

With the larger 5th gen grille, do you think the newer I/c will be larger?

I had tons of room because of the aftermarket bumper, and it's mounted diagonally under the radiator.

I'll take some pics for you when I get back on Wednesday.
