    2011 RAM 3500 - Knocking/Jack Hammering?

I can feel and hear noise from the stick shifter on the 2011 RAM 3500 with 40k miles.

    Maybe the linkages?

It feels smooth in 5th gear but not in any other.

It seemed fine when the Mechanic drove it and would only be noticeable after some driving.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

    Post a video of it.

Mine has made that “rattle noise” in 5th gear since day one when brand new.

The noise goes away if I slightly push up or down on the gear shift.

I’ve got a little over 113k on it, which still does the same thing.

Is the noise in all the gears shifting?

    Wow!

Mine doesn’t sound like that, and you can barely hear it in 5th.

Hopefully, someone can chime in that’s had this issue.

Different gears you have issues with, but curious if gear clusters are going out.

As 1st is extra low, I'd bet your 5th is direct, 4th and under are underdrive, and 6th is overdrive.

What all gears have in common for making that noise is the power is going through the counter-shaft. 5th is direct, no counter-shaft.

What is your gear oil? Are you using GL4 (not GL5) full synthetics or running Mopar ATF+4?

Do you still have the stock dual mass flywheel, or have you yarded it out like everyone else for a conventional flywheel?

Answer those questions, and I'll see if I can add more.

I have a G56, 55K miles on the truck, Southbend clutch, Redline MTL90 GL4 gear lube in trans and transfer case.

Quiet as a mouse. I get rollover noise from the lack of a dual-mass flywheel when idling.

It's the power pulses (3 per crankshaft revolution), and with the high compression of these diesels, it tends to bang the gears together.

Let me ask you another question, do all you G56 owners depress your clutch when shutting off?

    If not, better start.

I have done this since new.

Way more critical if you are dual mass deleted.

    Just got the truck—low miles.

    The wheels were dry-rotted.

It showed no symptoms until maybe 50-100 miles were put on it.

I scheduled an appt with a shop near me, DDP.

I haven't been turning off with the clutch in.

Have only shut off a handful of times.

I've been getting a ride with a buddy to work for now, so not driving it.

Would changing gear oil potentially be a fix for that?

I am assuming stock clutch and stock dual mass flywheel.

I'll have to search the forums for the pros and cons.

The previous owner had a weight reduction program, so I can't say how far they went with it.

    DDP will fix you up.

Changing trans oil, I doubt it will help.

It might quiet it down a little, but I’m afraid your synchros are shot.

While it’s out, drop you a new dual disk clutch.

I would replace the gearbox fluid with the previously mentioned lubricant anyway.

You can check for metal deposits in the old fluid, if nothing else.

I just dropped it off with them today.

They say they like the Valair dual disc so I may go with that.

A couple of mechanics out front said it probably threw out the bearing.

How much does that usually run?
