Thread: Passenger Side Headlight Melting?

    Passenger Side Headlight Melting?

I noticed today that my passenger-side headlight assembly is melting.

I've been idling a lot lately because of work; not sure if that would cause the issue, but my engine and coolant never go over 222 when it goes into high idle.

    My driver's side is fine.

    Any ideas?

This is a first for me.

    It's hard to see.

Is it fiscally melting on the back of the housing, or is the Chrome paint starting to delaminate?

    Passenger Side Headlight Melting?

No, it’s not on the back plastic.

Only the reflective plastic on the inside.

    I just went and looked.

Maybe you can see the difference better in these pictures.

Now that I look at it it looks as though my driver side is starting to droop at the top too

Very odd; never seen this before either.

Are the bulbs stock or aftermarket higher wattage?

Do you run your high beams on constant?

Never seen a headlight do that before in a 4th gen.

Maybe use a temp gun on the wiring and compare the left and right sides?

Or take the bulbs out and compare how the ohms/ voltage to each light socket?

It seems like it is getting too much juice and getting too hot.

    Re: Passenger Side Headlight Melting?

Are the bulbs seated into the twist locks correctly?

If not, curious if the bulbs themselves are leaning or favoring a side, causing the heat to travel, distorting the housing, and peeling the Crome off the housing interior.

That's all I can think of that could be the issue.

What does the plug that connects to the bulb itself look like?

If one of the port holes is burnt or melted, this would also be the culprit causing the additional heat.
