I May Have Got Water In My Oil Pan!

Changing out the evaporator and heater core this weekend is a pain.

While I had everything taken apart, I used the garden hose to rinse off the block.

I didn’t realize until I was putting things back together that I had the turbo oil drain pulled out of the block.

I don’t know, but water may have gotten in the pan when I rinsed things.

Will the small amount of water that may have gotten in through the turbo oil drain hole evaporate out of the oil when it gets up to temp?

Oil has about 200 miles on it.

The presence of water in the engine’s oil not only develops corrosion but also changes the composition of the oil.

Protective properties no longer work, and the oil film loses its benefits.

The consequences are harmful to the engine.

The liquid from the mix turns into a whitish emulsion that clogs the channels and causes the piston rings to stick.

At the same time, scuffs are formed on the rubbing pairs, and cylinder walls are the first to suffer.

How much water does it take to cause damage?

In a 3-gallon system, is a few ounces detrimental?

If so, would a drain and fill take care of it, or would it need multiple drains and fill cycles?

Drain the oil into a clean pan; pour it back in if there is no water.

    Exactly what he said ^^^^^

If there is water in it, that will be the first thing coming out since water is heavier than oil.

    Thanks for the advice.

I’ll see if any water comes out.

I worry it will stay around the edges of the pan and not come out of the raised drain plug area.

Re: I May Have Got Water In My Oil Pan!

I drained oil into a glass jar, and about half the jar was a milky color.

So I guess I got more water in there than I thought.

I drained all the oil, put in new oil and a new filter and ran that for a minute or two, drained that oil, and planned to put in one more to clean things out.

Should two drain and fill cycles clean it out well enough?

I would be happy with two flushes.

After the 1st drain, while running for a min, was there a bit of water once you dropped the plug?

After that first drain with fresh oil, it came out super clean, and I didn’t notice any water.

Most of the water must have washed out with the original oil.

On a side note, the cheap Delo oil I bought for the flushes makes the engine run quieter than the Schaeffer’s I had before.

I think you are fine and shouldn't have an issue.

I would make your oil change a little sooner than expected, as you may have some water trapped in the system that hasn't yet hit the drain plug.

I have had a bad experience years ago with this scenario.

Two hundred bucks for a filter and fluids are much cheaper than cracking the motor open to install bearings, LOL.

Overall, you caught this instead of driving with a bit of water in the system.

I swore they had a specific fluid that you poor in that removes moisture to help ease the brain.

I'll try to remember the name of it for you.
