New Injectors - New Sounds?

Hello, I am a new member but have referenced the website for quite some time.

I figured it was time to join to gain access to your knowledge.

I recently installed BBi 1.5s and a 10mm CP3 into a 2014 6.7L Cummins.

I hear strange things about the new parts, but they are probably not new to the truck.

Just hoping you all can let me know if everything sounds normal.

What I hear is what I can best describe as a sewing machine sound during acceleration.

High-speed tapping, not loud, and not a knocking sound. Is that injector rattle, or is that a typical high-pressure injector sound?

I’m embarrassed to say I don’t know what injector rattle sounds like, even though I’ve read all I can find.

Sounds normal to me; I hear the turbo spooling on acceleration but nothing out of the ordinary.

As stated above, you may want to check your valve lash if it’s due and you haven’t already done so.

I suppose the 10mm pump may be making a different sound than you were used to.

I also have a 2014 with BBI 1.5s and a 10MM CP3.

I don't hear anything out of the ordinary.

Changing injectors can make a difference in sound, depending on what you had before.

If you update your tunes, that can also make a big contribution to the sound.

These injectors may be quieter than your last set so that you can hear more underlying sounds.

Some people have had success quieting things down by timing their CP3, but not all CP3s have a TDC mark on the spline.

If you set your valve lash, updated your tunes, and there are no obvious signs of injector issues (excess smoke on start-up, hard starts, RP, etc.), I think you're good to go.

Thank you for the replies.

I checked valve lash the other day and adjusted a few that were slightly off.

It starts great, doesn’t have any smoke, and RP looks normal.

I think it must be normal sounds I didn’t notice before.

Sounds pretty normal to me.

I have the same injectors with an Exergy 10mm CP3.

As long as she runs well and you don't see any smoke.

I’m not sure this is related to the injectors, but we will see what you all think.

I have noticed a few times while at highway speeds, 70-75mph, an odd feeling in the truck.

At first, I thought it was a weird road bump, but it’s happened a few different times at different spots on the road.

Maybe described as a hiccup?

Or a miss?

What would a miss feel like?

Maybe bumps that I’m paranoid about.

It’s hot today, so not really a cold start, but it’s the first start of the day, and the coolant temp was 120.

Additionally, the MM3 refresh rate is set pretty high, so it’s hard to get exact numbers, but RPM at idle in the park is between 690-700s

Ok, that’s good.

I had the transmission spin-on filter come loose and got stranded.

I have been paranoid since then.

I have a road trip coming up and need the truck to be operational.
