First Gen Cummins - 1993 W250 Clutch - Transmission Noise?

So I picked up this very clean 1993 W250, 5.9L 12V, all stock, one owner truck, and it is in excellent condition; a few issues need addressing, and one is this chattering sound coming from the bell housing/transmission/back of the engine.

It only happens at idle, with the clutch engaged.

Check out the video below at the link:

I hope I am doing that right.

It is the pilot bearing, clutch, or pressure plate.

But it is similar to the sound the G360 transmission makes in 4th when you are too slow, so I am not sure it isn't the transmission.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this before I start tearing it apart?

    Thanks!

That sounds like a throwout bearing to me.

I would keep driving it until it needed a new clutch if it were me.

    Yeah, I guess it would.

Mine is also starting to make a little noise but not as bad as yours.

Wouldn't the throwout bearing still be with the clutch out (engaged) and only spin when pressed and pressure is applied (disengaged)?

My grinding sound is only when the clutch is out (engaged), with the clutch and transmission input shaft spinning.

I don't hear it when driving because the RPM is higher than idle.

I also have a torn inner boot and a hole in the trans tunnel behind the shifter that needs to be patched, making it worse.

Does it vibrate/ shake/ slip when taking off?

Yes, I believe the throwout stops spinning with the clutch out.

It might be that your clutch disc is worn out needing replaced and the flywheel resurfaced or replaced.

It drives great, with no vibration, shake, or slipping.

Even in 5th gear, there isn't any slipping when getting on it.

I am probably going to pull the transmission and see what I find.

Not sure when I will be able to do that, but when I do, I will post and let you all know what I find.

    Thanks!
