    Help With 2021 RAM ECM?

I have a 2022 RAM 6.7L Cummins, and I decided to purchase a 21 ECM used from a local junkyard.

I contacted Calibrated Power to tune the 21 ECM and installed and tuned the 21 ECM in my 22 RAM, and everything worked.

All options and no check engine or warning lights.

Tuning was so-so, and I decided to go the delete route since I would have this truck for a long time.

I have been working with DRD on this.

I ordered an MM3 and installed the recovery file from MM3, and the truck would start and run for 5 seconds and shut off.

We believe the issue was that the 22 FCA settings differed from the 21 to 22 calibration.

I got a new file to flash with the MM3 from DRD, which would not flash and failed.

Icons in the lower right hand of the display, one is yellow.

DRD and MM3 are working on this issue, but my issue now is that the HP Calibrated Power Tune will not work on the 21 ECM.

I have a no-start situation when I hit the push button start, and nothing happens.

I removed the 21 ECM and installed the 22 ECM.

I believe the 21 ECM needs a bench flash to get it working again.

Does anyone know where I can get a bench flash done?

Calibrated might be able to bench flash it.

Or if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know.

    Thanks.

Friend, you are in uncharted waters with that.

I'm sure they are trying to figure it all out.

While I don’t envy your position right now, we all appreciate what this will do for others in the future. You are a beta tester, my friend. Good luck. I’m sure they’ll get it figured out and we will have more data and knowledge for the future. It sucks being down a truck though.

2021 Ram 3500 DRW, H.O., bypass oil filtration, bypass coolant filtration, S&B CAI, 4:10’s
    2wd low loc kit.
Reacquired 2001 3500, 5.9 nv4500, dually cab and chassis, 5” straight pipe, edge juice w/attitude. Otherwise all stock…..for now.

    Yes I am.

We will get it figured out and I hope it helps everyone else out with a 2022 and newer truck.

They'll get you figured out bud.

Sucks being the first one, but it might just take a little bit to figure out the quirks.

I need to figure out how Calibrated got the 21 ECM to run correctly in the 22.

If we can figure that out, MM3 could tune these trucks.

Many shops do the 2021 ECM swaps, and they work fine.

I think he hit the roadblock when he flashed it back to stock as if it was a 2022 ECM and locked himself out by the sounds of it.

I could be wrong, but that’s my best guess.

Why was the recovery file loaded if the delete tune was happening?

    We didn't use a 22 Stock File.

    Here is what happened.

Calibrated Power tunes 21 ECM and ran for a couple of weeks to ensure no bugs.

DRD needed the stock read from the 21 ECM, so I connected the MM3, and it gives the error in the 1st picture.

DRD said to contact MM3 for a recovery file, get it, and load it to the 21 ECM.

Take a stock read and try to start the truck; when the truck starts, and runs for 5 seconds and shuts off repeatedly.

I flash the truck back to the Calibrated Power Tune and drive for it for a couple of days.

DRD believes the issue is the FCA Settings.

Sends a new ECM Profile with the updated ECM Settings.

I attempt to load that ECM Profile, which gives an error in the 3rd pic.

As you can see in the other pic, when it was writing the ECM Profile, the one icon in the lower right corner is yellow and should be green.

When the ECM flash fails, the MM3 says it has to install a stock profile and does.

After, the truck still doesn't start.

Connect the HP device and attempt to flash the Calibrated Power Tune, and it says that it is complete and installed.

Attempt to start and again No Start.

Remove 21 ECM and install 22 ECM; the truck runs on factory tune.

If anyone has any insight, let me know.

    Pete

    Any updates?

I'm looking at finding a 2019-2021 ECM before they get super expensive.

Which numbers matter for them to be usable?
