Thread: Question About Front End Travel?

    Question About Front End Travel?

I am preparing to put 5100s on the front as my shocks need replacing.

    I have a 2016 Tradesman 4x4 crew cab.

I am curious how much travel a bottle jack needs to get the front end off the ground to pull the tires and do the shocks, as I will be replacing them myself.

Does anyone have a link to a bottle jack they used for this?

I prefer to use a floor jack versus a bottle jack.

Also, use jack stands in case the bottle jack slips off.

I did all four shocks on my 3500 (I went with Fox).

I left the tires on and did just fine.

In the front, I installed the lower mount first and compressed the shock until the upper mount would go in with expansion.

I got the right front shock installed without lifting the truck.

On the front left, I could not get the last inch or so to get it to go in, so I used my pneumatic bottle jack on the frame.

I only had to raise it a few inches to compress and clear it.

My pneumatic jack is rated for 20K lbs.

    I cannot remember the brand.

It was a cheap off-brand my son bought me for Father's Day as my floor jack struggled to lift my truck.
