As AKBob stated, I wouldn’t rule out the U-joint.

The truck is almost at 100k.

I bought it at 70k, so I’m unsure when it was serviced last.

Judging by the color and smell, I’d say it got serviced just before I bought it.

I’ve done zero towing since taking ownership.

I’m starting to go with u-joint as the squeaking noise.

If it was serviced before you got the truck, it sure won’t hurt to change the gear oil out again, LOL.

Also, have you checked the front diff?

I changed both of mine out about 30,000 miles back and the front diff was the milky color.

Yeah, that’s why I just pulled the cover instead of trying to inspect through the plug.

I’ll probably drop the front in a minute here since I’m already doing the rear.

Did you buy a new gasket or use rtv?

My gasket was in pretty good front and rear shape, so I reused them.

Under load and when coming to a stop.

    Nothing in reverse.

I suspect my wheel bearing is the culprit.

I took the parking brake assembly off to confirm it wasn’t the brakes.
That has U joint written all over it.

Don't look for looseness; they go tight, too, remove and move each joint on both axis, it should be butter smooth.

A squeaking noise is a sure sign.

Well, being observant, listening for anything abnormal, and not ignoring it was great on your part.

You wouldn't believe how many people ignore it because it still goes down the road.

    Glad to hear it's fixed.

Which joint, front, middle, or rear, do you have a 2 piece driveshaft?

Was it a steel or aluminum driveshaft?

Did you fix it yourself, or has it been done?

See, I was like that once and never again, LOL.

My wheel rolled past me on the highway when I was 16.

The last one is into the rear diff.

    Two pieces from the factory.

I did it myself, and I’m certain it’s the first ujoint ever replaced on the truck.

    Soooooo much rust, LOL.

I'm the unlucky one who got it right, as things needed to be replaced LOL.

It took 30k miles, but that only took me a year to do with my job.

Everything on the truck was original until I got ahold of it.

    I'm a little over 1k miles from hitting 100k.

Had 69k when I bought it.
