    Diesel Fuel Questions

This is my first diesel which is a 2013 3500.

I’m on vacation in Alabama and filled up when I arrived.

A day later, the water in the fuel light came on, so I drained off both filters, and they were still on.

The bottle I drained into after sitting does not show a separation of water and fuel.

Up in PA, the diesel is usually very green tint, and the fuel drained here is more amber.

Other things are in play as I run Hotshot secrets everyday treatment religiously.

The truck runs 100% normally; the fuel filter has about 2500 miles on it, and the truck is at 132k.

The sensor and wire look ok but are 10 years old and original.

Any input is welcome as we pull the 20k fifth wheel and head home tomorrow.

The light came on yesterday, and I don’t want a breakdown.

I think I might have a sensor failure.

The only code in the engine is water in fuel detected.

    Thanks,
    Eric

Try changing your filters out and clean the sensors inside really well.

There might be a layer of “slime” over the metal contacts causing the light to stay on.

    Re: Diesel Fuel Questions

Can you take a picture of the fuel sample you pulled?

I want to rule out any fuel contamination.

Also, check the connector on the sensor.

I have seen water trapped in that connector, which could cause an indicator light.

Get some electrical contact cleaner and clean it up.

I do that every time I change filters.

Also, when was the last time you changed filters, and where did you get the filters from?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I put a bottle of power service clean fuel in that removes water and slime.

After a few hours light is out.

    Thinking watersupply189 is probably correct.

I’ve just moved the sensor last time I moved it.

Next filter change I’ll clean it up really well.

I put money into the WIF sensor.

    They're cheap enough.
