Random Dead Pedal / Exhaust Brake Issue On Start?

I have had something strange happen twice in about a week to my 2014 RAM 2500.

I’ve cranked my truck, and it sounds like the exhaust brake is open.

Surging into the air box, the pedal is entirely dead, and some black smoke when pressing the pedal.

Both times I switched the truck off and started it back and had no issue after.

I suspect it could be the VGT sticking open.

When I bought the truck, I was told that the actuator had been replaced.

The only thing that has changed is a day before the 1st time it happened, and my EZ Lynk updated the firmware.

The truck is on a complete diet, but the underhood parts remain intact.

Please, someone, point me in the right direction.

    Nice looking truck!

To confirm if the VGT is sticking, monitor VGT actual vs. desire.

They should follow each other closely; if not, the problem is likely sticking turbo vanes.

Seem to be running parallel under normal driving and acceleration.

If this started after the firmware update, I would try reinstalling your tune and see if that helps.

Yes, looks great in your capture without the issue.

I would continue to monitor and see what they do when the issue occurs.
