Thread: RAM Aisin Trans Upgrade?

    RAM Aisin Trans Upgrade?

I have a '19 RAM 3500HO DRW we use to tow our 18k 5er exclusively.

    I had a 2500 before with a 68RFE.

.I had modded that transfer with a billet flex plate, low stall TC, and heat-treated valve body.

Wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a need for this stuff with Aisin.

I've been hearing more about Aisin's woes lately and thought it might be something to get ahead of.

    RAM Aisin Trans Upgrade?

I have towed my 14K 5er approximately 35K miles over the last nine years—no problems or issues with my Aisin transmission.

I recently came across this information from NextGen about the most prolific failure points of the Aisin transmission, for what it’s worth.

2014 RAM 3500 (Aisin) 3.73 4X4 Limited Crew Cab Long Bed DRW. Oil Bypass Filter, Fuel Filtration Kit, Cold Air Intake, City Diesel Actuator and 50 Gallon Aux Fuel Tank.

    RAM Aisin Trans Upgrade?

Well, for the cost of just the TC, flexplate, and valve body, I may as well wait for the stock one to disintegrate and buy a whole new one from them.

I agree; I probably wouldn’t go with NextGen as their transmission reviews are not very good.

    RAM Aisin Trans Upgrade?

The K1 clutch pack snap ring in 19-22 Aisins is failing without warning, losing all forward gears.

The supplier for Aisin sent a batch of K1 snap rings built out of spec.

Still trying to figure out a window of build dates and trans serial numbers, but past that *little* issue, they’re pretty solid.

If mine goes, I will probably pay for Randy’s “stage 2” AS69RC.

After Hearing the stories of dealing with RAM 60+ days down with no ETA for some guys.

Here’s a link to a site some people hate, but they are building a list of failures, build dates, mileage, etc.

    Good find Bob!

I have to say, a person could become depressed by reading that article.

Here we thought we had the best.

Like everything else, I will carry on not sweating it, as that article seems to borrow some of the Bank’s power marketing strategies for their products.

    Interesting read, just the same.

Anything manufactured for the masses is going to be a compromise.

    I will never forget this.

If things lasted forever, companies would go out of business.

Everything is built to a price point/longevity point.

With the world today, if it lasts until tomorrow, that’s a win!

    Have a good one.

It seems the issues with the Aisins are 19 and up.

I have an 18 and pull a 21k trailer with no issues.
