Stuck In 1st Gear - 47RE Auto Trans

    I have a '99 with the 47RE.

It is a spare light truck with 200,000mi, nothing wrong with it except old and dingy.

I only drive it once every couple of months.

The last time I went to drive, it sat for four months; it would not shift out of first gear, and it was parked.

I am in a remote area w/o a mechanic skilled at diagnostics except for front-wheel drive cars.

Do you guys have any recommendations on where to start? the tranny was running fine prior, and the fluid is pink.

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    Thank you!

Will it shift if you manually move the shifter from 1st to 2nd and then to D?

A lot of times, the speed sensor is the cause of no shift in second gear.

You can OHM check it or have a meter if it reads open; it’s bad.

It’s a cheap and easy sensor to swap.

    Screws into the tail housing.

It should be a 1-inch socket, if I remember correctly.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to change the speed sensor, the governor pressure sensor, and the solenoid at that mileage.
