    140K, something.

I have a turbo actuator code I haven’t seen before.

The tapping sounds like lifters to me.

I would check the valve lash clearance and adjust it.

Attached is information on the trouble code.

I had this code at 54K miles; in my case, it was the turbo actuator.

Replaced with a City Diesel actuator, and the code never returned.

I agree with what AK Bob said.

Valve lash adjustment may be needed since you have 140k on it.

    Yikes.

That doesn't sound good to me.

I'd start by removing the valve cover and checking the valve lash.

Hopefully, it's just a loose rocker or bent pushrod.

    Re: Knock Knock Cummins?

Update: I dropped my truck off to be looked at, and the guy said that it could be an injector.

So this week, he spent some time diagnosing the problem.

    The valve train is fine.

Dropping out one cylinder at a time with the scanner didn’t produce a smoking gun.

OHM meter on injectors had a couple of questionable readings.

I was asked today if it always smoked so badly and ran rough at a cold start.

Yes, it had gotten that way.

So the guy says he drove it today, and the noise disappeared.

He wants to put a set of injectors in.

    What do you guys think?

Strange, the cylinder dropout test didn’t confirm possible injector issues, and the nose went away.

Given the 140K miles and some that didn’t go out correctly, you may need injectors.

You could try running some injector cleaner through the system to see if that helps and if the sound comes back before replacing them.

    Re: Knock Knock Cummins?

I would get a second opinion.

If the injectors checked out okay by deleting one at a time, how can he say it needs injectors?
