Electric Fans / Temperature Switch - 2008 3rd Gen

Dang, I haven’t posted in a while; apologies.

So I will switch from a clutch fan to an electric one.

Going with alloy works the whole radiator, shroud, and fan kit.

There are plenty of wiring videos and such, but my main specific question is, where will that temperature fan switch go if anyone knows?

An in-line hose 3/8” adapter thing?

Drill and tap thermostat housing?

Or is there already a spot to unplug and screw the switch into?

Can I tie it into the existing temperature sensor, maybe the existing fan clutch plug?

I’d like to see your setup if anyone has already done this.

EDIT: I’ve been reading that some prefer the mechanical/clutch fan over the electric fans due less moving air with electrical and causing overheating

Anyone have experience with this?

Haven’t installed one, but I would look to install the thermostatic switch in one of the pre-threaded plugged off water jacket ports on the top of the head on the exhaust side.

I am guessing you have probably seen this video below that suggests running two relays or upgrading the wire size when using the supplied relay with dual fans.

Thought I would include a link to it just incase.

Hopefully someone who has installed one will respond.

I did notice that 3/8 drive plug on the head but wasn’t 100% sure if that was an actual water jacket.

As for the cooling performance of the electric fans, do you think they can keep up with a 180on 165 off switch?

Will that specific switch allow the thermostat to operate properly?

I have 190 degree fail safe tstat that will remain open if it fails.

Approximately 6 minutes in on the video he recommends a 160* thermostat.

The sensor they provide turns the fans on at 185*F and off at 165*F.

With your 190*F thermostat the fans will never shut off.

Not sure on the exact plug size in the head or the depth of the hole.

I would install a 180*F thermostat, and use a different sensor switch that turns on at 195*F and off at 185*F.

If you don’t get any better suggestions you may want to contact Alloy Works for their advice and for the availability of different temperature range thermostat switches.

Yes, 200*F to 185*F would work also.

I have found a 200*on 185*off switch.

That should be alright.

I’ll add a manual switch ground with it too for towing.

Great idea the manual switch could be used before reaching 200*F if desired, just have to remember to turn it off when fans are not needed.
