Thread: Rough Country Exo Winch Mount / Rough Country Pro 12,000 Pound Winch

Rough Country Exo Winch Mount / Rough Country Pro 12,000 Pound Winch

So today I went and did a thing.

I have been missing my winch since trading in my Power Wagon.

I used that so much here in the mountains moving trees and pulling others out.

It was always nice insurance to have living 4,000 feet up.

So first off, the mount is very reasonably priced at $495 and comes with fog lights, a light bar, and D-Rings.

As for the winch, it is also reasonably priced at $500.

I bought the mount at Poly Performance and winch from Rough Country.

I will not knock Rough Country, but I was not a big fan years ago.

I have been doing alot of reading, and from what I am hearing, they have turned things around.

They have a lifetime warranty on suspension parts which is crazy.

They made the light bar I had on my Power Wagon; for years, I never had one issue with it or water.

Now, as for the winch, I have always been a big Warn fan, but you're going to pay, rightfully, as they last.

So I compared specs with a warn 12,000-pound base model, and surprisingly the Rough Country's ratio was a tad better, and for everything else, I didn't see a massive difference except price.

I am pumped to hook everything up and see how it holds up this winter. Here are a few photos from the purchase.

When I get the parts, and a little time, I will take pictures of the final product for everyone.

I wasn't sure I would like this setup just because of how far it sticks out, but we shall see.

Alright, everyone, I got the installation done finally last night.

Everything seemed well made, and the fitment was spot on.

The only issue I had was that the directions could be better.

I say this because getting to some of the nuts and bolts is very hard once you put that bumper on to secure it to the truck.

If I did it repeatedly, I would probably mount everything first, then bolt it to the truck.

Overall I am thrilled with the looks and functionality and would recommend it.

I wired everything up to the aux switches, making life easier.

Re: Rough Country Exo Winch Mount / Rough Country Pro 12,000 Pound Winch

I do have one question I forgot to add for all of you who have wired up the auxiliary switches.

I wish I had taken a picture and can later today if I don't explain this correctly.

So Rough Country sends all their light bars and fog lights with a pre-wired kit with a relay, fuse link, and switch.

I did away with the relay, fuse link, and switch.

I cut the two main wires to the light bar, one red and one black, obviously positive and negative.

At first, I hooked up the power (red) to the aux one and had nothing.

Then with red where it was, I took black and put it negative on the battery, which worked.

Should I leave the black wire on the negative terminal on the batter,y, or is it supposed to be grounded?

I also have read somewhere that there is a negative hookup on the second aux connector (light gray) on the top right if you're looking directly at it.

Just trying to wire up everything correctly so that if something goes wrong,g it will blow a fusee from the factory.

    I hope this made sense.

I appreciate the help, and I can take pictures later.

I haven’t used or wired the auxiliary switches, but any good reliable ground like battery negative will work fine.

I would run it to the most convenient location.

Pin #3 on the light gray connector is also a ground (Z907).

Awesome, that's precisely where I thought I could ground it.

Yeah it's literally on the negative, like two inches from that plug.

I may switch it over, so it's one less thing on the battery terminal.

I wish I had the black weatherproof plugs that came with the truck,k but I am the second owner.

I plan on drilling out the green plugs and trying that.

I am then packing the opening with dielectric grease.

    I appreciate your help.

Also putting this hook on today, which I love.

Easy to attach a D Ring to the front.

I touched up the wiring tonight.

Here are the fog lights and light bar.

I used the green plugs to weatherproof it.
