Re: Possible Head Gasket Failure - 07.5 Dodge RAM 2500

    Back again, folks.

I redid the head gasket, new head, and all new gaskets and went ARP 425s.

New thermostat, new water pump, and new radiator cap.

The truck runs flawlessly, with no overheating or gurgling/ reservoir over flowing.

But as always, nothing is ever easy.

I now have a coolant spewing from the radiator cap area.

It only happens when i work the truck, i.e., passing on the freeway or going up a grade that causes a down shift and more boost.

I can't figure out where it comes from, and the spray pattern looks like the rad cap.

I dont know what would be causing it to spew like that.

    Any ideas?

Since your coolant temperatures are normal and you are not overflowing the reservoir, I would pressure test the coolant system and check for leaks around the radiator cap area.

Try replacing the cap first along with pressure testing it.

I'm going to get the system pressure tested.

Also, per the arp install instructions, they dont say anything about a re-torque.

    Should I do a re-torque?

Or if it is the head gasket again, am I just wasting my time re-torquing at this point?

    Replace the cap.

If you can get an OEM cap.

I’ve had problems with Motorrad parts before.

I would take the truck somewhere that can vacuum-fill the cooling system to ensure no air is left.

    Thanks.

I just put an OEM cap on it yesterday.

I'm still debating if a re-torq of the studs would be a good idea.

I believe with the 425’s you need to recheck.

Did the new radiator cap fix the coolant leak?

ARP should put that in their instructions.

I did the torque check and got about a 1/4 turn on some of them.

Hopefully, I didn't grenade the gasket or warp the head.

    I haven't tested it yet.

I just installed the OEM thermostat and did the TQ check while I was at it.

Going to button everything back up and top off the coolant and find out either today or tmw.

Fingers crossed I didn't warp anything or cause other damage.
