OK, you wont want that light fluid ,Amzoil or Mopar ATF+4 in your trans after clutch upgrade. Mercedes Benz, this G56 is made by them and they use the full synthetic GL4 in 75W90 in it, so I did the same. I also converted T case incase a seal failed, didnt want cross contamination of different fluids, but I doubt it would hurt anything. Made it way quieter. Have the new oil ready for your clutch installers, just give it to them and tell them to install when they are doing the clutch install. Just make sure its GL4 and not GL5 hypoid gear oil.

You will get lots of extra rattle because of the extra floating metal plate between the dual disc, not sure of pedal effort will be higher, usually the same, maybe even softer as the double friction surface may not need the extra clamping force. Extra pedal effort has drawbacks, like more pressure pushing crank forward (I'm sure we have great crankshaft thrust bearings with adequate oil pressure) and of course, the load on the pedal hanger brackets under the dash.

My kit as will yours, came with a new master and slave, already sealed/fill/bled with fluid. But the reservoir will now be remotely mounted up by cowl. My cowl flange is slightly tilted, to reservoir is also tilted, going to make a bracket to straighten it out.

The new master slave probably has larger bore diameters to keep the pedal pressure from rising.
    Ok, thanks.

    I appreciate it.

Going to see how loud it is before changing out the fluid right away.

    Amsoil ATF was expensive.

I don't mind it being loud; I can't hear anyway, LOL.

If it's terrible, like you say, I will do Redline for sure.

There is always so much debate on fluids with these transmissions.

The rollover noise from the lack of the dual mass flywheel and the lube you have will be acceptable.

But keep in mind that your dual disc setup will make more noise from the clutch setup.

No big deal; you were aware of it and willing to accept it.

After I start mine, I can sometimes get a clanking rhythm from my rollover noise, I can press the clutch and release it, and it settles way down.

It's a small price to get rid of that junk stock clutch setup.

    One of my better upgrades.

Yeah, I am interested to see what's in there.

I can tell the bell housing bolts have been removed before, and it doesn't currently have oem clutch hydraulics.

I have felt a stock clutch pedal before, and it was terrible, but who knows what's in mine?

    Apparently, not enough.

I will have the guy get pictures of what's in there.

I may just take all the old parts to look at them.

The clutch is supposed to be in tomorrow, and as long as it does, I am dropping the truck off, also.

    I won't lie; I am excited.

    BTW for break-in, apparently, it's 500 miles.

I was reading with no downshifts ?

Also, back in the day, I had a 500 hp Evo MR with an Exceedy dual-clutch, and every time I was at a light, people would stare or say, " Hey, is your car broken?

    Nooooo, it's the clutch, LOL.

I then feathered back out and into it again feeling it slip and finally catch. Then came the dreaded burnt rubber smell in the cab. I had no choice but to get past this person on the hill so the clutch got smoked bad LOL. This made me do the purchase I have always wanted but wasn't financially ready to do yet. I went and purchased a South Bend 3250-GK dual disk so I don't have to worry anymore if responsible. I am honestly excited to have this clutch in and relearn driving my truck. If any of you have this clutch please chime in and tell me how you like it. I was already warned to be ready to back trailers up in 4 low which I honestly wish I would've thought about already with what I have in there now. Thanks everyone
I've had this same clutch for 100k or so miles.

Backing up isn't too bad with my 8,000lb trailer, but in certain situations being in 4lo would be ideal.

BD Diesel makes a kit that lets you get 4lo gearing without being in 4x4.

I have been happy with its performance of it.

Mine is starting to slip if I get on it too much in 5th or 6th gear, so it's time to replace it.

The floater plate has gotten louder later in life.

I'm sure the plastic buttons that keep it "quiet" have worn.

I am going with the same clutch again, though.

I thought I heard about a kit that does that.

I appreciate the link, and it's a simple install, by the looks.

I am adding that to the to-do list.

That's awesome that you got at least a 100k out of that clutch.

Can you give me some pros and cons of the clutch since you have one?

Yes, the G56 has, IMHO, too high of a reverse gear.

    I wish it were lower.

    I use 2 lo.

I don't have the RF axle disconnect like you guys; mine is a 2010, but I added free spin hubs, so just shifting it to 4WD LO gives me 2 lo.

Re: When It Rains It Pours Clutch Slippage G56

So I got the clutch yesterday and dropped the truck off.

They probably won't get on it till tomorrow, they say.

After talking to you all on here and in the shop, I will ditch the ATF.

They are putting the equivalent of delvac 50 in, but I went ahead and ordered Mobil Delvac 50 myself, so when I get it back, I can use the same fluid Mercedes said to use plus one quart for a total of seven.

    Pro's:
It's not a POS like the stock DMF
Holds power well (I'm at around 450-500 HP)
    Good towing manners

    Con's:
Gear Rollover Noise below 1500 RPM -- Unavoidable when you ditch the stock clutch.

I have Hotshot secret G56 fluid in mine.

It quieted the rollover down slightly

Long as they are using a synthetic GL4 equivalent, I'd save the Delvac for your next fluid change.

That last quart needs to go in through the shift tower.

Not terribly difficult to remove, but you need to pull the floor console out and pull a boot off to get to the shift tower.
